Welcome to Inter-State Federal Savings

On March 15, 1889, eight men met in Room 7 of the West Side Lumber Company building at 5th and Oakland in Kansas City, Kansas. They discussed the scarcity of financing for home building in the area. Those eight men recognized both the growing appeal of homeownership and the need for a way to assist families who found it increasingly difficult to save enough money to build a decent home. By unanimous vote, Inter-State Building and Loan Association was formed that day. In 1956, the institution switched to a federal charter and changed its name to Inter-State Federal Savings and Loan Association of Kansas City.

The association maintained its office in several different locations in downtown, Kansas City, Kansas. Our home office is located at 711 Minnesota Avenue, Kansas City, KS. As Wyandotte County expanded to the west, Inter-State opened two branch offices. In 1962, a branch was opened at 132 Oak Street, Bonner Springs, KS . Another office was opened the following year in the Wyandotte Plaza Shopping Center at 78th and State Avenue. In 2007, this branch was moved to a newly-remodeled facility at 1919 N. 78thStreet, Kansas City, KS.
